Matchbox Twenty singer to headline Pets Alive fundraiser • 05.23.11
Rob Thomas, lead vocalist in rock band Matchbox Twenty and a board member of Pets Alive, which operates a no-kill animal shelter in Elmsford, will perform at the group’s second annual Fur Ball Gala Fundraiser on June 11.
The Fur Ball, which will be held at the Saw Mill Club in Mount Kisco on June 11, is the not-for-profit shelter’s biggest fundraiser, raising money to operate a 45,000-square-foot facility in Elmsford and an 80-acre animal sanctuary in Middletown. Pets Alive, which merged with the financially-troubled Elmsford Animal Shelter, cares for about 700 dogs, cats and other animals.
The event, with an expected attendance of 400, will feature live music, dancing, auctions, dinner, cocktails and an acoustic performance by Thomas. There will be presentations featuring shelter animals and awards will be given to the shelter’s partners.
Marcy Rydd, who works in community relations for Pet Alive, said the organization is grateful for the support of local residents. She added, however, the group still needs sponsors and auction items for the event.
“We are overwhelmed by the love and support of those in the Westchester community,” she said. “We really need a lot of support and exposure.”
