The Woman’s Club of White Plains is sponsoring a “Snacks for Soldiers” campaign to send food and other comfort items to troops in Afghanistan.
The snack drive was inspired by Debbie Zaccaria, whose son, Army Sgt. Robert Zaccaria is currently serving his second tour, near the Afghan-Pakistan border. When she asked what her son and his fellow soldiers wanted or needed, he said “food.”
Earlier this month, the Woman’s Club presented Debbie with a cache of snacks and other items, along with monetary donations to cover the shipping costs.
“As a mother, I’m overwhelmed by the generosity and support from both friends and strangers to this cause,” she said. “As they are so far away, it is so easy to forget about them. This is a wonderful way to thank a soldier, and they’ll be truly grateful and lifted in this reminder that you care.”
The effort is continuing. For more information, or to make a donation, call Peggy Robinson at 914-428-1942.
