City officers planning to ride in this year’s Police Unity Tour are holding a fundraising event at the Porter House Bar and Grill on March 28.
The Unity Tour, a bicycle trek that will begin May 9 at the site of the World Trade Center terror attack and end May 12 in Washington, D.C., is designed to raise awareness of police officers who died in the line of duty.
Organized in 1997, the tour now has 1,200 members nationwide who participate in the ride. Money raised will be donated to support the National Law Enforcement Museum.
In White Plains, a team of eight officers plan to make the ride, including Joe Zepeda, the nephew of Detective Michael Perry, who died of a heart attack in 2010 after chasing and capturing a theft suspect.
At the fundraiser, $40 donations will include beer, wine, soda and appetizers. A 50/50 raffle is being held and other prizes will be awarded. The Porter House is at 169 Mamaroneck Ave.
