A high school student from the Masters School has been named the New York State Journalist of the Year by the Journalism Education Association (JEA) as part of its national competition.
Tyler Pager, a senior, currently serves as one of three editor-in-chiefs of the school’s newspaper, Tower, and has worked on staff for the past four years. His stories have appeared in numerous other publications, including The Wall Street Journal Classroom Edition and The Daily Northwestern.
Finalists for national recognition are selected from all 50 states. Pager will represent New York at a convention in San Francisco, which takes place from April 25-28.
Pager’s application consisted of a 38-page portfolio featuring a large portion of his work from the past four years. As the representative from New York, his portfolio will be evaluated in comparison to other state finalists, with the winner being announced next month.
