Don’t want the hassle of heading to Times Square to ring in the New Year with thousands of other revelers?
You’ll find a ball drop, fireworks, entertainment and throngs of people in downtown White Plains on Dec. 31st as the city once again sponsors its annual New Year’s Eve Family Spectacular, in conjunction with the White Plains Business Improvement District.
The free outdoor extravaganza takes place on Main Street between Court Street and Renaissance Square and features Celebration Entertainment DJ music from 10 to 11 p.m., followed by a performance from The Showtime Dance Band.
The excitement peaks with the crowd countdown, culminated by the illuminated ball drop and a midnight fireworks display by the Zambelli Company.
Major sponsors include Heineken USA and The Journal News Media Group.
To accommodate the celebration, police have announced that Main Street at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Court Street at Martine Ave. will be closed to vehicle traffic from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m. and that Renaissance Square will close from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m. At 10 p.m., northbound Mamaroneck Avenue, westbound Martine Avenue will close until 1 a.m. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard will be closed northbound at Martine Avenue from 11:30 p.m. to 1 a.m..
