White Plains Mayor Thomas Roach is one of 28 public officials appointed by the state Thruway Authority to a task force that will study transit ideas for the new Tappan Zee Bridge and Interstate 287.
The Mass Transit Task Force will study options, costs and funding sources.
“I am honored to have been selected and look forward to serving,” Roach said of his appointment. “Mass transit is an essential element in ensuring economic growth, a healthy environment, and overall quality of life in the City of White Plains and the region as a whole. Without a transit component, any new bridge would simply deliver, perhaps more elegantly, commuters into the same congested roadways. Identifying a mass transit solution for the bridge represents the first step toward reducing that congestion. ”
The task force is expected to take a year to complete its work and make recommendations.
