Sisters of the Divine Compassion Carol Wagner, Maureen McMahon and Felicitas Russell, along with the White Plains-based Order’s finance officer, Rebecca Boivin, are part of a delegation of women heading to El Salvador on Nov. 30 to be honored for their commitment to social justice.
The delegation will also help commemorate the 32nd anniversary of the murders of four American missionaries by government troops during the civil war in El Salvador. Maryknoll Sisters Maura Clarke and Ita Ford, Ursuline Sister Dorothy Kazel and lay missioner Jean Donovan were raped and killed by Salfadvorian troops on Dec. 3, 1980 because of their advocacy on behalf of the refugees and the poor.
The delegation, sponsored by the Leadership Conference of Women Religious and the SHARE Foundation, will represent the community in standing in solidarity with the people of El Salvador and honoring the sisters, priests and Christian volunteers who were martyred during the 12-year civil war.
