Carlos Caceres, a member of the board of the Biltmore Towers condominium. in White Plains, said the condo has rented a generator to light stairwells, hallways and common areas at a cost of $10,000 a week. So when he went to the White Plains Post Office and saw two Con Edison trucks parked there, with workers “doing absolutely nothing,” at about 1:30 p.m. on Friday, he hit the roof.
“They weren’t eating lunch or anything,” he said. “They were just smoking and talking. I was so mad I took pictures of them, and one of the guys got out and started cursing at me. It’s just appalling. We have 135 families in my building. We have senior citizens and people with medical needs. We haven’t had power since Monday and these guys are sitting around doing nothing. All of the public officials are on TV saying how much they’re helping , but four days after the storm we’re still in an emergency, with no power, and we have Con Edison workers just sitting around.”
