After a 90-year relationship with Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in White Plains, the Massachusetts-based Stigmatine Fathers and Brothers, which has provided the church with pastors since 1922, is relinquishing that service as of Nov. 1.
“We have made the difficult decision to withdraw our pastoral presence and ministry from this parish,” the Very Rev. Gregory Hoppough, Provincial Superior of the Stigmatine order, wrote in a letter to the church announcing the change. “We simply do not have the personnel to send you as we did in years past. Please note that this was a painful choice for us to make.”
The Archdiocese of New York plans to replace Rev. Albert Azrak, current pastor of Mount Carmel and will announce his successor soon.
A Mass of Thanksgiving for the Stigmatine Fathers and Father Azrak is to be celebrated at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday (Oct. 20), at the 92 S. Lexington Ave. church.
