Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino has scheduled a town hall meeting for Wednesday at White Plains City Hall. It is one of a series he is doing around the county:
“ASK ASTORINO” TOWN HALL TO BE HELD IN WHITE PLAINS AUGUST 22Mayor Roach to introduce county executive
As part of an ongoing effort to reach out to Westchester residents and listen to what is on their minds, County Executive Rob Astorino will host a town hall meeting on Wednesday, August 22 at 7 p.m. in the council chambers of White Plains City Hall at 255 Main Street, 2nd Floor, White Plains, NY 10601.
Astorino will be introduced by White Plains Mayor Tom Roach. The county executive will then give an update on the progress his administration is making in delivering on his three major goals: providing tax relief, preserving essential services and promoting economic development. Residents will have an opportunity to ask questions on topics such as taxes, pensions, health care, housing, the environment or any other issue they wish to discuss.

I wrote to Astorionos office numerous times with no response. I also wrote to his Chief of Staff with no response.
Question for the forum. How does the County intend to promote it’s housing stock? Numerous empty coops, condos which owners can’t sell due to antiquated laws. But, he wants to build more housing.
The Long Island country now requires cooperative apartment boards to reveal in writing their reasons for turning down potential residents. Board members could be brought to account more easily in discrimination lawsuits, and be held personally liable. Entitled “A Local Law Requiring Fairness in Cooperative Home Ownership” (Intro. Resolution Number 1763-2009, Local Law Number 36-2009), it also requires that co-op boards provide the same application to all applicants, along with information on the relevant Fair Housing and anti-discrimination laws. Once an applicant turns in an application, the board must acknowledge within 10 days that it has received it, and must inform the applicant whether the application is complete or not. The board must come to its decision to approve or deny the completed application within 45 days. Why can’t Westchester have the same law.
