The city’s Department of Public Safety is looking for candidates for its third Citizen’s Academy, a popular nine-week program that gives residents and business owners a first-hand, insider’s look at the police and fire departments.
Taught by exprienced cops and firefighters, the goal of the free program is to show what the agencies do, how they do it and why they do it the way they do. There are plenty of opportunities for “cadets” to try out various pieces of equipment and ask lots of questions. Highlights include visits to the firing range, fire training range and a “ride-along” with a police patrol officer. The free program ends with a graduation ceremony.
The next Academy will meet Tuesdays from 7 to 9 p.m. at Public Safety Headquarters, 77 S. Lexington Ave. beginning March 27 and ending May 22.
Academy applicants must be 18 or older. Contact Police Lt. Kevin Christopher at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information.
