The Greenburgh Board of Education voted unanimously to appoint Sidney Freund as interim superintendent.
Freund will assume the top job in the Greenburgh school district on Jan. 3, replacing Ronald Smalls, who is retiring in December. He will receive $117,613 for the six-month appointment, an additional $1,200 a month in lieu of benefits, and $500 for vehicle expenses, according to the agreement.
Freund served as interim superintendent in Greenburgh and North Salem after retiring from the Dobbs Ferry school district in 2006. He resigned in September from the Greenwich school district in Connecticut for “personal and professional” reasons. But news reports in Connecticut said he faced opposition from some school board members.
