Congratulations go out to the students at Greenville Elementary School in the Edgemont school district. The school is a runner-up in the inaugural Documen-Tree contest, sponsored by Cintas Corp.
The contest awarded thousands of dollars in cash and prizes to schools. Students submitted video and written entries explaining why their school should win the contest, which was designed to promote planting trees and recycling. As a runner-up Greenville will receive two historic trees from American Forests’ Historic Tree program. The Historic Tree program plants trees in communities and shares stories of how the trees are tied to historic events.
As part of the prize, an educational program will be held for students to teach them about the significance of the trees and how to care for them. The trees in the Historic Tree program hae historical significance, such as the honey locust that served as a backdrop for Pres. Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address.
