Children age 4 and up can learn about Italian culture and celebrate the final night of Carnevale “martedi” Grasso (Fat Tuesday) tomorrow (March 5) at the Antonio Meucci Lodge, Order of Sons of Italy from 3 to 5 p.m. in White Plains.
Visitors will be immeresed in the re-creation of an authentic celebration of Carnevale with games, an elaborate display of photos, prints, figurines and masks. Highlights will be a video presentation of Carnevale celebrations in Venice and a presentation and Italian lessons from the Carnevale King and Harlequen. Kids will also see the fly over of La Colomba (the White Dove), who showers the crowd with candy.
There will also be singing and dancing and the kids can make their own souvenir masks to wear in a Masquerade Procession. Refreshments will be served. The event will end with a family dance after the symbolic de-corination of the Carnevale King.
The celebration, a lodge tradition for 12 years, is making a comeback after a four-year hiatus. Instead of charging admission, visitors are asked to bring a dessert item to share with others. The lodge is located at 279 Maple Ave.
