At the 20th annual Brotherhood Breakfast this morning, E. Barbara Wiggins, who lives in White Plains, and The Thomas H. Slater Center in the city, were honored for decades of public service.
Each received The Harold Fitzpatrick Community Leadership Award: Wiggins for her work as a board member of the YWCA of White Plains and Grace Community Church, and the Slater Center for its youth-centered programs, including homework help and music instruction.
“People have to see that you have to be willing to do things for others and not expect anything in return,” Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino said during the breakfast at The Doubletree Hotel in Tarrytown. “People are hurting. A helping hand at the right time, that can made a difference in someone’s life.”
David Ford, chairman of the Mount Vernon Neighborhood Health Center, and New York Affordable Reliance Electrical Alliance, a coalition of business, labor and environmental groups, were also honored.
The breakfast was hosted by the African American Men of Westchester and The Business Council of Westchester.
