Phelps Memorial Hospital Center hosts “Spirit of Jazz” concert to benefit hospice program

Posted by: Stacy A. Anderson - Posted in Greenburgh on Oct 19, 2010

Phelps Memorial Hospital Center will hold “Spirit of Jazz,” a music concert to benefit the hospice program at the Sleepy Hollow hospital, on Sunday from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Irvington Town Hall Theater.

Jazz singers Melissa Walker and Tessa Souter will be backed up by a quartet:  saxophonist Steve Wilson, bassist Ron McClure, drummer Billy Drummond and pianist Oscar Perez.

Walker has opened for the legendary Ray Charles and performed with the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra led by Wynton Marsalis. Souter’s style infuses jazz with the soul and passion of flamenco, Middle Eastern, African and Brazilian music. She has performed at the Rochester International Jazz Festival.

All proceeds will go to support Phelps Hospice, a program that provides professional and dignified services to families and patients at the end of life in their homes, in the hospital or at a health care facility.

Concert tickets are $35 and available at www.irvingtontheater.com or by calling the Irvington Town Hall Theater box office at 914-591-6602.
