Pleasantville’s Axial Theatre has made a name for itself presenting new works for more than a decade. And Artistic Director Howard Meyer (inset, photo by Mark Vergari/The Journal News) has been helping to present new actors through his HMActing Program. In a few weeks—on Aug. 20 and 21—some of his students will perform a summer workshop of short plays and scenes over the course of two evenings.
On Aug. 20 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 21 at 3 p.m., it’s “Mothers and Daughters,” featuring scenes that fit under that broad umbrella: “Baby Talk” by Jeanne Dorsey, “Turtle Beach” by Aiose Stratford, “Seer of Things” by Fidel Fonteboa and “Concrete” by Linda Giuliano. The actors include Geanina Baltateanu, Marilyn Collazo, Charlotte Exton, Karen Hanley, Marisa Lowe, Nora Matz, Emily Riso, Debra Rodman and Eileen Walton.
On Aug. 21 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 22 at 4 p.m., it’s “Fight or Flight,” with: “The Downtown Four Train” by Matt Hoverman, “Rental Boats” by Matt Hoverman, “The Pokey” by Katie Atcheson and “Tainted Love” by Linda Giuliano. Performers include: Geanina Baltateanu, Joseph Colontino, Marilyn Collazo, Charlotte Exton, Karen Hanley, Emily Riso and Eileen Walton.
Tickets are $15 and performances are at St. John’s Church, 8 Sunnyside Ave., Pleasantville. 914-286-7680.
