There’s a new Mexican restaurant in Hartsdale called Vega, and it’s super-cool looking — very chic and modern, and nothing like a Mexican restaurant you’re used to seeing in the suburbs, with the serapes and sombreros on the walls and mariachi music in the background.
Instead, it looks more like it belongs in the city — heck, even Mexico City.
I haven’t eaten there yet, but I have more photos of the interior — and a link to the menu — after the jump.
Here’s that same dining room from a different angle:
And on the other side of that window is another dining room:
Here’s the bar area. The restaurant did not have its liquor license when I shot these photos; I’m told margaritas are now available.
The menu has tacos, quesadillas and the like, but also more modern dishes, such as shrimp lime salad, creamy poblano chili soup, lemon chipotle chicken and steak tequila. There are also traditional interior Mexican entrees, such as cochinita pibil (the Yucatan’s version of pulled pork), pollo con mole Poblano (chicken with a chocolate mole sauce) and chicken tinga, a shredded chicken with barbecue-style sauce and peppers. You can also get simple bar food like pizza (Mexican style) and wings (served with “El Rancho” sauce).
They make their own tortillas and chips on premises and the menu says they use organic meats when possible. (Not sure how often that is, though.)
I’m crossing my fingers that this one will be good, because it’s right up my alley.
