At the urging of Mount Pleasant Today, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority removed an underpass structure that has been obsolete since the 1980s at the Hawthorne station earlier this month.
Following recommendations from the grass-roots community organization, the town of Mount Pleasant also added safety cones and crosswalks at the train station, in the Valhalla business district, near Hawthorne Elementary School and near the Thornwood Chamber of Commerce building.
Town Supervisor Robert Meehan said security cameras will be installed at the Hawthorne and Valhalla train stations by the end of the winter.
