Westchester Community Opportunity Program, or WestCOP, has received a grant from the New York State Crime Victims Board to provide nine hospitals in Westchester County with new equipment to improve services for sexual assault victims.
The social service agency was presented the grant today at the Westchester Police Academy in Valhalla. WestCOP’s Victims Assistance Services has coordinated the county’s Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program for 12 years.
Some centers that facilitate the program, including White Plains Hospital Center and Saint Joseph’s Medical Center in Yonkers, will receive a state-of-the-art colposcope to use during forensic exams.
The New York State Assembly gave out a combined $500,000 in grants to 19 organizations including hospitals, sexual assault/rape crisis centers and victims’ assistance programs.
