I got a call and followup email this week from Coach Mike DiSanto from the White Plains Bernies youth football program.
The kids are headed back to Giants stadium on Sunday, when they’ll run some plays during halftime of the Giants-Chargers game.
Here’s a shot of the team at the stadium two years ago, taken by staff photographer Matthew Brown.
The Bernies are a privately funded, not-for-profit youth tackle football organization which started in 1958, says the coach, and have been based in White Plains for 51 years.
“Many of our of players have gone on to play football for White Plains High School and Archbishop Stepinac, where we have longtanding, working relationships with both programs,” he said.
The kids must be thrilled. About 50 of them are taking a bus to the stadium, DiSanto said, and will scrimmage at both sides of the field.
I asked him to send us photos from Sunday’s trip, which we’ll get into a future edition of the White Plains Express.
